Several people had informed me that they had released their recipe so I gave it a try. I used the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gastronomyinc.com\/recipes\/clam_chowder.html\" target=\"_blank\">Market Street recipe<\/a> the first try and on the second on the second attempt I modified the recipe just a teensy bit as I found the first one too salty and I think sometimes it is better to be able to add salt to taste rather than find your dish over salted.<\/p>\n<p>The second time I used a chopped for the vegetables (except the potato, which I did cube) &#8211; I spent way too much time perfectly cutting the vegetables the first time. Start getting the soup and vegetables ready while you are getting the flour\/butter baked rue ready.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1  cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t potato, diced 1\/2 inch<\/li>\n<li> 1  cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t celery, diced 1\/2 inch<\/li>\n<li> 1  cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t onion, diced 1\/2 inch<\/li>\n<li> 1  cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t leek, diced 1\/2 inch<\/li>\n<li> 1  cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t green pepper, diced 1\/2 inch<\/li>\n<li> 3\/4 cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\tchopped  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t clam (canned or fresh)<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\tclam juice<\/li>\n<li> 3\/4 tablespoon   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t fresh coarse ground black pepper<\/li>\n<li> 1 tablespoon   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t salt<\/li>\n<li> 1 1\/2 teaspoon whole  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t thyme<\/li>\n<li> 6     \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t bay leaves<\/li>\n<li> 1  teaspoon   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t Tabasco sauce<\/li>\n<li> 3\/4 cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t sherry wine (optional)<\/li>\n<li> 2  cups   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t water<\/li>\n<li> 2  quarts   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t half-and-half<\/li>\n<li>1 cup flour<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 cup   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t  \t\t\t \t\t\t\t butter, melted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Combine melted butter and flour in oven-proof  container and bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. The result looks about like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-rue.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-415\" title=\"clam-chowder-rue\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-rue.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-rue.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-rue-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In large saucepan, combine  remaining ingredients except half-and-half. Simmer until potatoes are thoroughly cooked.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-veggies.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-416\" title=\"clam-chowder-veggies\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-veggies.jpg\" alt=\"veggies for clam chowder\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-veggies.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-veggies-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stir the butter-flour mixture into the clam chowder and keep stirring until it thickens, the mixture will be slightly less thick than cookie dough. I tried this slowly the first time and a little more quickly the second, and it didn&#8217;t seem to matter as much how fast I added the butter flour mixture to the clam chowder soup.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-base.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-417\" title=\"clam-chowder-base\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-base.jpg\" alt=\"making clam chowder\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-base.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.cookingonadime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/clam-chowder-base-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Remove the clam chowder from the heat and stir in half-and-half until blended. Heat the clam chowder back up to serving temperature, stirring occasionally. The chowder will be a bit thin, but thickens quickly as it cools off in your serving bowl.
