My husband and I had developed a habit of eating out often. After a kitchen remodel (we didn’t have a dishwasher for five years), we rediscovered the joy of cooking and I am slowly trying to learn to put a few more recipes under my belt. Whether the recipes are my own, or new ones I try out, I will blog about my favorites. I decided to start this blog to record my cooking adventures and to make a few friends along the way.

The blog is named Cooking on a Dime because one of the main reasons we opted to start cooking from home more often was to save money. I don’t think that good food needs to use a bunch of exotic ingredients to taste good (but sometimes I venture out… sometimes). I not a gourmet cook, in fact I am what could be considered to be a “newbie” chef, I started to stretch my philosophical “cooking wings” at the age of 30. Hopefully as I learn and grow, so will this food blog.

My blog was temporarily put on hold for most of 2011 due to my battling breast cancer (and the lack of energy to cook). I have a renewed energy focused on eating good home cooked food with lots of veggies and fruits whenever possible (but life is too short to not eat butter).
