This is my husband’s now not so secret recipe for spicy sausage spaghetti marinara. Yes, we cheat and use bottled spaghetti sauce, but the trick is in the flavor that you add to the marinara. My husband has perfected this recipe over many renditions as this is his signature dish.

Spicy Spaghetti Marinara Recipe Ingredients:
½ pound hot ground Italian style sausage
½ pound Louisiana style sausage minced (optional)
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
3 cloves fresh garlic pressed
1 teaspoon oregano
Pinch of rosemary
½ teaspoon pinches of basil
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper

Add olive oil to a medium saucepan, add the sausage and then the rest of the above ingredients. Cook on medium heat until the sausage in browned. Add vegetables:

1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
¼ cup chopped green pepper
¼ cup chopped red pepper

Once the onions start to be slightly see-through add one bottle of your choice premade spaghetti marinara sauce and ½ cup shredded parmesan cheese (our preference is Ragu six cheese). Heat sauce and turn down to low stirring regularly for about 20 minutes (about the same amount of time it takes to get the spaghetti noodles ready).

In a large saucepan heat water to a boil on high, add spaghetti noodles and turn down to medium high. Cook noodles until they are cooked to your preference (I prefer al dente, but it is up to you)..
