Fall has begun, but it is still warm here so we decided to have some friends over and make some garlic burgers and hot dogs!

In order to make these garlic burgers you will need to oven roast the garlic, I do this to get the yummy garlic goodness in the burgers, but to tone down the tang a bit.

Roasted garlic for garlic burgers ingredients:

  • 3 garlic bulbs
  • 3 teaspoons of olive oil

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Slice the top 1/2 inch of each garlic bulb on the pointy side of the cloves to expose the garlic. Place on a small pan on some tin foil, drizzle about 1 teaspoon of olive oil on each clove and cover tightly with more tin foil (make sure the cloves have a good amount of oil spread out among them). Cook for about 60 minutes until the garlic is very tender, it should be nice and squishy so that you can squeeze it into the burger mix). Set aside to add to the burger mix (prepare the garlic on the same day as you make the burgers as roasted garlic has a limited shelf life in the fridge).

I made a really large batch of garlic hamburgers, you are welcome to increase or decrease the size of the recipe as you see fit (basically the additional ingredients for the garlic hamburgers can be based on each pound of hamburger meat you wish to cook – 1 lb of meat equals about 4 garlic burgers).

Additional garlic burgers ingredients (makes 12 garlic burgers):

  • 3 lbs ground hamburger meat
  • 3 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup finely minced onion (more or less according to taste)
  • 3 teaspoons worchester sauce
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Roasted garlic as noted above

Mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl, squeezing the roasted garlic into the mixture (avoiding getting the peels in there as much as possible, I usually focus on squeezing in one clove at a time). Press into hamburger patties that are about 1/2 inch thick and 4 inches round and cook as you prefer on the grill. Top with your favorite burger toppings and enjoy!.
